How Do I Transfer A Domain Name To Godaddy?
This is an easy one, but might require you to make a to the other Registrar where the domain currently is.
Just because you bought a domain at another registrar like for example Network Solutions, Register.com or 1and1 does not mean you have to keep it there.
You can transfer your domains to Godaddy as long as you have NOT recently done 1 of the following items.
1. Registered your domain name within the last 60 days
2. Recently updated the Whois information or Registrant information for the domain. If you did, you may have locked it again for another 60 days without realizing it.
If you haven’t done any of the following above, then you can transfer your domain to Godaddy.
To prepare for transferring your domain, you need to do the following first.
1. Goto the Registrar where the domain currently is and UNLOCK IT so it can be moved.
2. Have the other company email you the AUTHORIZATION CODE (aka EPP Code).
If the email address associated with that domain is old, you won’t be able to receive the Authorization Code. Then follow this next step EXACTLY so you don’t lock the domain at the other registrar for another 60 days.
–> ONLY change the “Administrative Email Address” itself. DO NOT change the contact information, person’s name, phone number, address or anything else about any of the REGISTRANT, BILLING, TECHNICAL, ADMINISTRATIVE categories. Only the 1 field of the “administrative email address”!!! So you are only changing 1 single field of information. You can change the rest once the domain is in your godaddy account.
Once you update only the email address for the administrative contact, wait a little while for the whois to update and then have the registrar re-email you the authorization code.
Now you are ready to start moving!
1. Login to your godaddy account and order the domain transfer. It only costs approx $7.00, but that also includes an additional year registration.
2. Once you order the transfer, you will receive 2 codes via email from godaddy (a transaction id and a security code). You will need these in a moment.
So now you should have the following ready:
unlocked the domain, received the authorization code, the transaction id & security codes.
Now you need to enter these codes in your godaddy account.
1. Login to your godaddy account.
2. Once in, look on the leftside margin under MY PRODUCTS.
3. Click on “Domain Manager” – do not click on my domains.
4. Once all your domains load, hold your mouse over the DOMAINS tab to the upper left of all your domain names.
5. Select the sub option for DOMAIN TRANSFERS
6. Then checkmark the domain you are transferring and look on the far right for the black button that says something like AUTHORIZE TRANSFER. It’s near the righthand margin. Hold your mouse over it and click start transfer.
7. Enter in the Security Code, Transaction ID and Authorization Code (aka EPP Code).
Once these are entered, wait about 1 minute and refresh the page.
If you see 2 green checkmarks light up for steps 1 and 2, then you are done. There is nothing else for you to do but wait.
It can take up to 5-7 days for the other Registrar to transfer the domain over. There is no way to speed it up.
