IMPORTANT: Never revoke your ssl certificate without first speaking with customer support. Once a certificate is revoked it is gone. You cannot re-key a revoked certificate and you may have to purchase a brand new ssl certificate. Plus you could have potential downtime on your website.

The original Godaddy ssl certificate is automatically turned off when the new one is issued. It is not necessary for you to revoke and old ssl certificate.

You should consider re-keying an SSL certificate only if any of the following occur:

You cannot locate your private key

Your private key has been comprimised

You will be changing your hosting providers

Changing the Dedicated or VPS server the certificate is currently installed on

Recovering from a server crash

NOTE: If you are moving your SSL certificate to a new dedicated or VPS server, or if your server has crashed on you, or if you have lost your ssl private key, you will want to re-key your Godaddy SSL certificate not revoke it. For information on how to re-key your certificate see Re-key an SSL Certificate.

An Godaddy SSL certificate makes sure your customers have a safe shopping environment when purchasing products online.

When a visitor enters this secure webpage on your website, any credit card information, email address or other personal information is encrypted so that no one can see it.

The SSL Certificate helps create secure/encrypted web session. This process is called a “Handshake”.

The SSL “handshake” takes place without anyone even knowing and avoids any interruption of the shoppers shopping experience. A”padlock” icon in the browser’s status bar.

The “https://” prefix in the web address is only visible when you are in a secure session.

If you are selling products online or gathering personal private information from your website visitors, you should make sure you have an SSL installed otherwise this private information is open to potential hackers.

If you do not have an SSL Certificate set up on your website, you can get one here.

So you found a domain name that someone else already owns.

Maybe it is getting ready to expire or maybe it still has a year left on it.

Did you know that you can place a BACKORDERon the domain name in the event that the current owner fails to renew it? If the domain drops back to the public, then let our system try to capture if for you. So rather that you having to sit at your computer day after day and waiting for it to become available, place a domain BACKORDER on it.

Keep in mind it is an attempt only as the owner may continue to renew it or other people at other registrars may also have a backorder on the same domain.

The great thing about backorders is they never expire and you never have to renew them. They just keep working for you waiting for the domain to become available.

If you feel that the domain is never going to become available because the current owner keeps renewing it, then just login to your backorder admin area and swap out the name for another domain name you want that is coming up for renewal. Godaddy’s system will attempt to capture that one instead.

If you win the backorder, then it also pays for the first year of the domain name too.

If you want to host your website at Godaddy, they provide you a few options.

Shared Hosting

Website Template Builder

Dedicated Hosting

Virtual Hosting

SHARED HOSTING: Shared hosting is ideal if you own your own website design software like Dreamweaver and you know how to build your own website.

There are 3 hosting plans available (Economy, Deluxe and Ultimate).

The Economy plan is idea if you only want to build one website.

The Deluxe plan allows you to host multiple websites with up to 25 mySQL databases.

The Ultimate hosting plan also allows you to host multiple websites, but give you a lot more mySQL databases to can use.

All 3 hosting plans come either in Linux or Windows. Linux hosting is the most popular plan, but you may also need a Window plan depending upon what software you need for your website.

Another great benefit of Godaddy’s Linux hosting is that it has a Hosting restore option which allows you to quickly undo changes to your hosting files. So if you mess something up, you can go back in time a few days to make it go back to working condition. Currently a Godaddy windows hosting plan does not allow for that.

Once you order your hosting plan, then you should logout and wait about 5 minutes. Then log back into your account and look on the leftside margin under MY PRODUCTS. You should now see a white link called “HOSTING”. If you click on it, then when the next screen loads up; look in the middle. You will now have the ability to setup your hosting plan to the domain name of your choice.

Once you set up your hosting plan, it will take about 30-60 minutes for the hosting plan to create itself before you can start uploading your html files.

When you go through your initial setup, you will be asked to create a USERNAME and PASSWORD. Keep this information different from your normal account login. The username and password is known as your FTP LOGIN INFORMATION. You will need this to upload your files if you are going to be using a FTP PROGRAM like Filezilla.

Once you want your website to go live, you will need to point your NAMESERVERS to your new hosting plan. How to change your nameservers.

It may now take your website up to 24-48 hours for it to go live.

WEBSITE TEMPLATE BUILDER:

Godaddy offers a great website template builder called Website Tonight. It is ideal for those of you who have either never built a website before, but want to and it is also ideal for those of you who just want to build a quick professional website. All you do is choose a template you like and then start uploading your own files and photos.

You can easily change the look and feel of your website including colors, navagation buttons, add javascript, your own html code, videos and much much more.

You can even change the template with the click of a few buttons.

This is a very popular plan and it includes hosting.

We will be adding other tutorials about using website tonight later, but here is a website tonight tutorial you can start watching.

DEDICATED SERVERS AND VIRTUAL DEDICATED SERVERS (aks VPS Servers):

Godaddy offers multiple types of dedicated servers and VPS servers including CentOS, Windows, 64 Bit, Ubuntu, Fedora.

Many plans to choose from with additional options including a popular Assisted Server plan for those of you wanting a little extra help.

For information on plans and pricing, select which type of Server you are looking for (Dedicated Server or Virtual Dedicated)

If you are not used to working with servers, please make sure you have someone working for you who is experienced. Buying a server is not recommended for those of you who do not have experience.

A Certified Domain basically tells people that Godaddy.com has certified your domain registration. It is a “formal certification”.

It can improve your site’s trustworthiness in the online community to display your domains’s Origination Certified Seal.

How Can I Make My Domain Certified?

1. Certified domains can be purchased directly through the main “domain” menu once logged into your accout at gdTutor.com or Godaddy.com. If you bought your domain thru gdTutor.com, then you need to purchase you Certified Domain thru gdTutor.com. If you bought your domain thru Godaddy, then login to your account with them and purchase it there.

2. From the Domain Manager section, you can checkmark the domain you want to make Certified and then click on the “Upgrade” icon at the top of the Domain Manager. From there you will have the ability to select Certified. Then just follow the prompts to checkout. It’s that easy.

3. If you purchased a credit for a Certified Domain and you want to tie it to a domain name in your account, click on CERTIFIED DOMAINS under the MY PRODUCTS section when you first login. It is located on the left side margin when you login.

What Is The Duration Of A Certified Domain?

You can make a Godaddy.com domain name certified for 1,2,3,4,5 or 10 year durations.

Where Will My Certification Be Visible?

It is visible via the Whois Lookup section at Godaddy.com.

What Is The Difference Between A Certified Domain Name And A SSL Certificate?

An SSL Certificate secures and encrypts the connection between your website and your visitors. A Certified Domain shows a visitor to your website that you have gone the extra step to certify your domain name. Unlike a lot of domain owners who just buy a domain. A certified domain basically tells them that you are a legitimate business and take domain ownership seriously.

Are There Any Certification Requirements?
No. Just make sure you add Domain Certification in the same area where you purchased your domain name.

Sometimes if you just bought a domain that is still indexed on the search engines, then you might get residual traffic and thereby be able to convert a small percentage of the sales into earnings for yourself.

Godaddy.com do NOT all Domain Tasting. If they see you buying lots of names and refunding them in a few days, this could be considered “Domain Tasting”.

Godaddy.com has a certain refund policy if you need to cancel a domain, but if you do it a lot then your account could be flagged and you would not be able to cancel your purchase. So be careful.

It really depends upon if you do this all the time. If you buy a domain here and there and occassionally you refund one, then you will be fine. Everyone changes their mind sometimes. But if you buy a lot of domains and you are constantely cancelling them and requesting a refund, then you are subject to declines on refunds.
